![Lent Day 8 The Passover Lamb (Exodus 12:1012 [13-30])
God had to go to drastic measures to make Pharaoh allow the enslaved Hebrew people to leave Egypt so they could be free to find a land of their own. God sent ten plagues upon Egypt before Pharaoh complied. The tenth plague required that the first-born son of every household would die when the angel of death visited all the inhabitants of Egypt. God told Moses to instruct the people to take bunches of hyssop dipped in the blood of sacrificial lambs, and brush the blood over the top and down both sides of their doorframes as a sign to the angel of death that these were Hebrew households to be âpassed overâ when he brought the plague to Egypt. As God promised, the angel of death did pass over the houses that were marked with the blood of the lamb, but the Egyptian households were not spared from death.
