“For by grace are you saved through faith, and not that of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9

After God had healed me of an incurable disease, I wanted to do something for God.  I began by taking a Basic Catechist Course to be able to teach CCD.  I also had a desire to study the Bible.  I began attending an interdenominational bible study and came across the above scripture one day.  I was shocked when I read this scripture!  I thought I had to earn my way to Heaven!

Then I read in Isaiah that my good works are like filthy rags before the Lord, and that the only good work in me is the work of God’s Holy Spirit in me!  At this same time in our study we were asked to read Revelation 3:21, which says:  “Look, I stand at the door and knock, if anyone will open the door I will come in a sup with him and he with me.”

I realized that Jesus wanted to have a relationship with me, and so I said a prayer inviting Jesus to come into my heart.  At that moment I realized the grace and mercy of God for me even though I was unworthy!  I went around all day singing “Amazing Grace” and said:  “Now I know why that guy wrote that song!”
